General Aspects of Skin Cancer
Skin cancer presents a wide spectrum of cell mutations. Melanoma is the most aggressive of skin cancers, affecting our melanocytes. However, there are two other kinds of skin cancers that are more common such squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma, these two attack our keratinocytes. How deep they grow and the incidence of cases in the United States are shown for comparison in the image below:

Types of cancer
There are other types of cancers such as:
- Merkel cell carcinoma
- Kaposi’s sarcoma and other types of sarcoma
- cutaneous (skin) lymphoma
- skin adnexal tumors
Melanoma is the most aggressive type of skin cancer. This is a solid cancer that originates from the melanocytes, which are the cells that color the skin by producing melanin and protect us from sun radiation.
Vitamins for healthy skin
Studies suggest vitamin A is important to melanin production and is essential to having healthy skin. You get vitamin A from the food you eat, especially vegetables that contain beta carotene, such as carrots, sweet potatoes, spinach, and peas. We need to be very careful on what good sources of synthetic Vitamin A supplement we take, since higher doses can be lethal for you. Another type of Vitamin A that is synthetic is Isotrtinoin or Accutane created by the pharma to dry your mucosas and reduce acne. Taking it during pregnancy can cause mutations of your offspring. Even if you are not pregnant and consume it, you can still experience liver and internal damage, which may sometimes be irreversible.
Milk contains vitamin D, which plays a crucial role in determining skin pigmentation and serves as a protective shield against harmful ultraviolet radiation.
Causes of skin cancer
Melanoma affects mostly caucasian cohorts, however, other ethnicities can develop it. Some causes are mentioned below:
Genetic:
- Lighter natural skin color/family history/high freckle density;
- Personal history of skin cancer;
- Melanocytic naevi or multiple moles.
Physical conditions related to time:
- Age.
After the age of 55 the probability to get cancer is higher. According to Dr. William Li, cancer starts out as a small microscopic group of cells with a dimension of 0.5 cubic millimeter, that can only expand if they have blood supply and if your immune system is weakened. The angiogenesis in this case is not well controlled, this process can be called hyper-angiogenesis. Data from autopsies in people that have passed away in car accidents reveals that about 40% of women from 40-45 had this microscopic cancer in their breast. About 50% of men between the 50’s and 60s had these tiny masses in the prostate. This can be corroborated with the fact that 81% of cancers belong to people older than 55 as shown in the image below.
- Immunosuppressive diseases and its pharmacological treatments:
An immunosuppressive organism will have a weakened immune system. Stress, high sugar levels in your organism make your internal organs to overwork, alcohol is very high in sugars and carbs and besides increasing the risk of cancer, it can increase the risk of getting diabetes type 2 and 1. This section is going to be better explained in the article named Immunological aspects of Skin Cancer.
A good example of immunosuppression is Freddy Mercury, he got a very rare type of skin cancer called Kaposi’s Sarcoma. If you had the opportunity to go to the Madame Tussauds in the UK, you could see the wax figure of him with the dark spots inside of his throat. Mercury would have been 77 years old this year. - Overexposure to UVA radiation.
Some exposure of sunlight gives you Vitamin D, which inhibits cancer and helps out with the synthesis of Melanin.
The only one who can take care of your health and your family is yourself. Like in my case, I am in the area of Immunology because of my allergies towards sunlight. After years, I could not stand the sunlight and could not enjoy the sun for more than 2 minutes. That made me feel so hopeless. I consulted the dermatologist after six months of waiting in line since I am a simple person. I have heard from connections in Grad School that the best Immunotherapy came from Mexico. People with the same problems I had, as well as people who were told by an oncologist here that there was no hope, got hope in Guadalajara, Mexico. Guadalajara is not only the place where tequila was made for the first time or Mariachi music, they have one of the best universities in the Country, the name is University of Guadalajara. When I got the sunscreen created with IL-10 (anti inflammatory cytokine) obtained from the Mesenchymal Stem cells from the umbilical cord allowed me to enjoy the sunlight without suffering the urticaria or rash again. Now, I can enjoy a healthier and a happy life that I would wish for anyone.
- High consumption of sugar
We are what we eat, sugar in a body with cancer is like putting gasoline to the fire. Dietary choices play a crucial role in cancer, particularly regarding sugar intake. Excessive sugar consumption can fuel cancer cells, analogous to adding gasoline to a fire. By understanding the impact of our food choices and reducing sugar intake, we can support overall health and potentially hinder cancer growth.
